Galvani bridge (Mock-up)

“Large urban architecture and real estate development tenders are also conducted by modeling the surrounding part or area of plaster cast and leaving the design area empty. Each applicant must prepare their own plan in a way that can be incorporated into the environmental model, so that everyone can present their ideas in the same way. It is very illustrative of how you react to the same environment. Ideally, a design process should take place in such a way that the drawings, the computer virtual platform, and the inter-work layout run in parallel. As the plan evolves, so does the model, with more and more complex and detailed solutions. In contrast to digital design, a physical model can see everything at once, which is why it can be sobering. It always shows if something is wrong. In Hungary, however, mock-ups are mostly made at the endpoint for representation purposes, not on behalf of designers, but also of real estate developers, ”says architect Géza Csizmazia, managing director of Limes Model, whose company is the market leader in modeling in Hungary.

Physical modeling has been a basic element of architectural education and practice for centuries, but unlike foreign schools, these classes are considered a kind of compulsory element in Hungary, and practicing architects do not necessarily use inter-work models. A change of attitude is needed in both education and the profession in order to put this sector and profession in the right position at home. This is because the model can be both a premium product and a practical tool to help with the work.
